Overview

Opportunities exist for South African Women to participate in the economic growth of the mining sector. Like in most sectors in the past, black women have been marginalised in the mining sector. This historical background makes it necessary to create a vehicle that will fast track their participation.

The South African Women in Mining Investment Holdings (SAWIMIH) is a Proprietary Limited Company that was registered in October 2003. The members holds majority shareholding in the company, thus ensuring broad based empowerment participation. SAWIMIH was spawned out of SAWIMA (South African Women in Mining Association), an organisation formed in 1999 as an initiative by the Department of Mineral and Energy.
 
SAWIMIH is black women owned and managed company. The board comprises of 5 directors. The structure is broad -based with shareholders derived from all nine (9) provinces in South Africa from both urban and rural areas.
